The worldwide smartphone applications market grew more than $2.2 billion dollars within the first six months of 2010, according to research2guidance. Mobile application download numbers reached a total of 3.8 billion in only 6 months, compared to 3.1 billion in 2009 according to the latest report by research2guidance.

Emerging markets will be the key driver in the growth of global mobile value-added-service revenues from $200 billion in 2009 to $340 billion in 2014, according to new research from Informa Telecoms & Media. China, India, Indonesia, South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Turkey, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Russia, Poland and the Ukraine are expected to account for 36 per cent of the global mobile data revenues in 2014.

Online casual games and mobile games are becoming increasingly popular. At the GAMES CONVENTION ONLINE the research institute gamematrix and games publisher Greentube presented the first results of their study, which compares demographic data provided by several market research institutes and analyses the user behaviour of online and mobile casual gamers. Male consumers, for instance, are forerunners in using paid mobile and online contents. Online gaming is still more popular with 55-year-olds, but mobile games are catching up continuously. Obviously online casual gamers are the social networkers of today.

ABI: Verizon will become data traffic leader in 2011
ABI Research's latest analysis of the mobile data market sheds some interesting light in the wireless carriers and their device roadmap. ABI reports that AT&T's network had the most data traffic in 2009 and that will likely continue to have the most data traffic in 2010 thanks to the iPhone and AT&T's large number of smartphones on its network. But by 2011, ABI predicts that Verizon will overtake AT&T and become the data traffic leader because of increasing penetration of Android devices and other similar high-data use smartphones.

According to digital services giant Yahoo, roughly a month after Apple introduced its iPad tablet, male users outnumber females by a two to one ratio. While men make up 51 percent of all Yahoo users in the U.S., they represent 66 percent of iPad users on the Yahoo network - in addition, the first wave of Yahoo users on the iPad is 94 percent more likely to boast solid wealth and strong incomes than the average U.S. Yahoo user.

Apple's iAd forcast to generate $825M for developers this year
According to a research note published by Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi, Apple's forthcoming iAd mobile advertising effort could yield developer revenues reaching $825 million this year. This number is estimated from the annual revenies in the App Store sales, which presently equal $1 billion to $1.4 billion. The forecasted $825 million will be divided into $550 million from apps and $265 million from media providers.

On April 13th, Smaato Inc., the leading mobile ad optimizer and mobile advertising company revealed its latest metrics, looking at the global, mobile advertising market in terms of click through rates and ad network fill rates. The metrics show that Android has been enjoying huge success in terms of click-through rates in South East Asia. But on the global front, it has dropped by around 50% and into fifth place, with Symbian retaining top spot and Feature Phone handsets, the only handset OS to make consistent gains over the last four months, claiming second space.

comScore, Inc., a leader in measuring the digital world, today released a study of the smartphone market in Europe showing that smartphone adoption in the EU5 (U.K., France, Germany, Spain, Italy) has grown 32 percent versus a year ago to 51.6 million subscribers. Whilst growth can be seen across the range of monthly subscription fees, the mid to low tier is growing faster than high tier subscriptions in each of the EU5 markets.
